A few of my peeves:
"ofTen" "libary" Things I do: I have a pseudo canadian/north midwest thing that I got from my mom. "melk" "soar-y" things like that. I used to say "ratio" as "rat e o" like patio. I used to say type-er-writer. |

Bartholomew. A kid I went to summer camp went by this instead of Bart, and I always seemed to add an "L" to the end and pronounce it as Bar-thall-a-mule. He finally corrected me and I just began using Bart instead.

I was trying to remember it, but if I say "I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to help you get the milk out of your pillow tomorrow", a lot of you won't think I was born in this country.

I also pronounced melancholy like melankoly until I was reading aloud in class in highschool and got laughed at by my teacher for it. [/ QUOTE ] As opposed to . . . ? Is there some other way to pronounce it other than like melon-collie? |

7ontheline: I always heard this in old TV shows when a woman was about to give birth, as in "She's dialated to 10 'sontimeters', it won't be long now." I thought it was some other measurement for years.
There was a Finnish hockey player in Philly named Janne Niinimaa. It irritated me to no end hearing the one of the announcers on the national Fox broadcasts say neem-ih-nuh. I eventually learned that he was using the correct Finnish pronounciation, and everyone saying it as written was wrong. |
