i [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] wakefield so much.

i made a post, i think in one of the clemens threads, about how clemens was going to put up 'wakefield-like' numbers for the yankees (meaning ERA, WHIP, etc not K/9 or the like) and ended up making a bet with triumph about it. here's an update on their respective seasons so far that i posted over there:

[ QUOTE ]
just to revisit the bet that triumph and i made:

i was widely berated for saying that clemens would put up 'wakefield-like' numbers for the yankees. we made a bet that clemens' ERA + .75 <= wakefield's ERA.

Clemens:
83 IP, 4.34 ERA (99 ERA+), 1.31 WHIP, 60 K, 22 BB, 8.57 K/9, 2.97 K:BB

Wakefield:
157 IP, 4.35 ERA (104 ERA+), 1.29 WHIP, 92 K, 54 BB, 6.16 K/9, 1.77 K:BB

these stats don't include Wake's awesome outing today (7 IP, 3 H, 0 R in a win over the White Sox).

anyone have VORP / WARP for these guys over the 2007 season so far? i thought i found it on BP but it was under batting statistics so i was a little confused.

but they said: (WARP1/WARP2/WARP3)

2007 Wakefield: 4.6 / 4.8 / 5.7
2007 Clemens: 2.0 / 2.1 / 2.5

Through August 24th:

Wakefield -- VORP: 25.6

Clemens -- VORP: 98

I must be slow, because I cannot find current WARP

9 POINT 8

lets be fair, clemens missed a decent chunk of year. a per game average is probably better.

clemens pwns anyways. yankees defense at times can be laugahable and is always worthy of a giggle.

That was a mistype. As I assume was your point at the yankees defense being 'laughable'. Isn't Jeter, behind Eckstein, one of the better infielders? He isn't scrappy or gritty, but he can play.

I'm sure Derek Jeter is a fine "pop-up" handler, if you know what I mean.

More jealousy from the sublime one....

Oops. I forgot. Nomar is a better shortstop than Jeter.

totally, and a chunk of the debate hinged on the fact that wakefield is going to give you 200 IP and can go deeper in games.

The series of moves leaves the Sox without an obvious starter for Sept. 1 against Baltimore. Tavarez could make that start, too, operating with five days’ rest.

It’s more likely, however, that the team will promote Clay Buchholz, who beat the Angels last week in his major-league debut, to make his second spot start.

Buchholz was to receive a promotion back to Boston when rosters expand, anyway, and the open date gives the team a second opportunity to evaluate him in the starter’s role.
