What % chance are we to make the playoffs? [/ QUOTE ] 72%+ according to one site, although I think their math is dubious. I put the Cubs at worst a 60% based on the fact Magic Number/Chi+Mil games left(which is dubious as well) |

Re: The Official 2007 Chicago Cubs Thread
[ QUOTE ]
I really want San Diego so I can see first two here, and then I will see Game 4 in Chicago. [/ QUOTE ] So if Chicago gets into the playoffs it will most likely by as the division winner with the worst record. The wild card team plays the division winner with the best record, but can't play their own division's winner. So it seems most likely that San Diego, Mets or Phillies will be the wild card winner and the division winners would look like this (if Cubs win). 1. Arizona 2. Mets or Phils 3. Cubs wild card, SD, Mets, or Phils Scenario 1. If Mets/Phils are the wild card, they would play Arizona in the first round and the Cubs would play the East winner (Mets or Phils). Scenario 2. If SD wins the wild card, then SD would play the East winner and then the Cubs would play Arizona. So if my above analysis is correct, doesn't San Diego seems the least likely opponent were the Cubs to make the playoffs? |

And for people trying to imply that Cubs fans in AZ aren't transplants from the Chicago area, LOL. WRONG. [/ QUOTE ] This was not what was implied at all. Reread my post. |

Re: The Official 2007 Chicago Cubs Thread
The wild card is automatically the 4 seed regardless of record, but it cannot play a team from within its own division in the first round. So if the team with the best record and the wild card team come from the same division, the Cubs will be the 4 seed. If not, they will be the 3 seed.
So yes, it is unlikely after losing the last two games that San Diego will host the Cubs in the first round. Basically they have to overtake Arizona (2.5 back right now) and Arizona has to still get the wild card with SD having the best record overall. It appears to be pretty likely at this point we will either be at Arizona or at NY. I am hoping Arizona, as I might drive over for one or both games. |
