[ QUOTE ]
cody are you [censored] daft? i am saying that the colts - and manning - made sacrifices to improve their team. regardless of if you think he was being selfish before or just thought that was the best way to win, they obviously made a change for the best. i am complimenting them for adjusting their strategy, the fact that manning restructured his contract only adds to that argument.

[/ QUOTE ]

Again, chill, my issue isn't with your message, just the specifics. The Colts offense didn't really change (save for Edge's departure). Mannings restructuring was the only thing that really differed from years past (and that was only AFTER the SB win).

What did change was Freeney and Sanders playing better, Mathis feeding off Freeney, Rob Morris' returning as a starter (big emotional boost there), and all the players (save draft picks obv.) getting more time in the Tampa 2 scheme.

[ QUOTE ]
let me say again: i have NO ISSUE with teams 'running up the score'.

[/ QUOTE ]

/debate really. If we don't agree here, it's unlikey anything that follows will be useful. It's not really an issue since we both pay money for tickets and I'm guessing if we really found the sport so awful, one or both of us would stop.

[ QUOTE ]
the pats control the game by putting together long, dominating drives and eating up clock. they do this to keep their defense rested, too, and to keep their timing sharp. in the games i'm talking about, the colts were repeatedly scoring on a few big plays - short drives - and then holding off terrible offenses like the texans, raiders and bears.

[/ QUOTE ]

The difference here, is that in those IND games, the teams were still trying to win, once they basically waved the white flag, Peyton went to the bench. In NE's games, they've kept the heat on after the other team's basically conceded defeat, and that doesn't sit well with some fans.

Is it against the rules? Of course not, but this thread should, if nothing else, prove to anyone without concern for running up the score, that there is a contingent of people that take issue with it.

How exactly does a team concede defeat? I would like to see this in action.

C'mon, are you kidding. You know exactly when the other team throws in the towel. They stop running the hurry up, the stop trying deep throws or getting out of bounds.

They still throw and they still try to score touchdowns. They may not be going 110% because the risk isn't worth the reward, but they haven't conceded defeat.

[ QUOTE ]
Week 1 at New York Jets (38-14): 1-yard TD by Heath Evans, 1:58 left.

Week 2 vs. San Diego (38-14): 3-yard TD by Sammy Morris, 3:18 left.

Week 3 vs. Buffalo (38-7): 45-yard TD catch by Randy Moss, 10:22 left.

Week 4 at Cincy (34-17): 14-yard TD catch by Randy Moss, 3:18 left.

Week 5 vs. Cleveland (34-17): 15-yard fumble return TD by Randall Gay, 0:42 left.

(Important note: This came one play after the Pats failed to convert the "Eff You TD" on fourth-and-goal from Cleveland's 4 when Brady just missed Kyle Brady in the end zone.)

Week 6 vs. Dallas (48-27): 1-yard TD run by Kyle Eckel, 0:19 left.

[/ QUOTE ]

Quoted from above:

I'm really curious which of those games you think a team "conceded defeat."

So calling a timeout with under two minutes left doesn't qualify as conceding defeat, right?

Sweet Zombie Jesus Kyro, be more of a nit. You know what I'm saying here. Teams don't want to get there players hurt so they put in reserves. It's hard to quantify but you know when I team has pulled off the dogs.

Stop being intentionally difficult.

I'd say if they're still calling timeouts to elongate the game, they're still trying. agree?

I mean, I think we've proven the whole thing ridiculous. multiple teams this season have done what the Patriots have done. but magically it's only an issue for us.

I think I'd agree to that. At least, I'll say that I think there've been more extreme examples then NE v. DAL.

As for the others, well if it makes you feel any better, I agree they're all douches.
