Re: College Football Thread
[ QUOTE ]
MT2R - SEC question ... was the florida 3rd in SEC east predicated on them losing to both Tenn & UGA or just how the remainder of the sched. for all the teams breaks down? [/ QUOTE ] nope...I have them favored by a decent margin in that game the standings are actually the result of an insane long process basically, I have an index of power rankings for each team. I then add in things like home-field advantage, bye weeks, etc to produce a 'line' for every game. I convert that line into an expected win-loss proportion based on the database I have of NCAA results from 1993 to 2005 for each spread. Then, I treat each game as an independent event and go through all the combinations in a binomial tree and the probability of them occuring. I do some sensitivity analysis as well, but my results are not the greatest due to some auto-correlation among the events (games) and path-dependency issues. I have Florida as 6 point favorites v Tennessee It's just the way the schedules work that Florida is still likely to have more conference loses than Tennessee despite being a better team in my power rankings. |

Everyone thinks Leak is so amazing because he played well in the MNC game... [/ QUOTE ] No I think Leak was a very good college quarterback because I saw him play for four years on a regular basis. As an LSU fan I had mad respect for the guy. He may not have the strongest arm but you don't need that in CFB to be successful, and Leak was very successful. What has always puzzled me is that UF fans (generally speaking, from my encounters) never really seem to like or respect him. Cat had game. Maybe he won't make it in the NFL or anything*, but that doesn't mean I won't always remember and respect the guy, not only for being able to disect a CFB defense like a motherf*cking surgeon, but for carrying himself like a decent human being. *Then again, Chad Pennington. |

Re: College Football Thread
somehow i feel that all the post-event love for Leak from fans of rival SEC teams is more just a cleverly disguised jab at UF for the upcoming season ..... if he loses vs OSU i doubt ppl would be bringing up how Leak is a big loss, there would be another way/reason to say they're not going to win the conf again.

[/ QUOTE ] I saw him play every single game, many practices, spring games, so I know who he is. You didn't watch him anywhere near as close as I did and anyone who did watch him that close knows he had/has a lot of issues. Obviously he has game and was a great college QB, but he fell short in a lot of areas. Does that mean he wasn't good? No, but Tebow is already a better passer in some areas then Leak was. Obviously, this doesn't automatically translate to results, so we'll have to see. Tebow will have to do a lot to fill Chris Leak's shoes but he has more tools than Chris ever had. You won't find a UF fan that doesn't like Chris Leak. What is not to like? He is one of the classiest Gators of all time & is now a legend in Gainesville. |

what I don't get is why so many expect Florida to win the conference again? [/ QUOTE ] I don't even have a good prediction at this time, but it's simply because the "experts" are giving us the benefit of the doubt offensively & expect that we will be able to out gun everyone. If for some reason the offense struggles it's going to be a very tough season, but if they play like they are capable, then the offense should be able to carry the D to a very good/possible SECC season. We have been expected to be insane offensively the past 2 years and haven't lived up to the hype, so it def remains to be seen. |

I was thinking of going to Columbia for the mizzou-corn game, but I think I'm passing on that now. Same day as the Horseshoe Poker Classic main event too. I think I'm passing on that one too. |

I just got tickets to Purdue @ Michigan. Any Wolverines with suggestions on where to go for tailgating before/after the game? [/ QUOTE ] If you'll have your own car, then the UM golf course (south of the stadium) is the obvious choice. |
