Nick Cafardo wrote this in the Globe today:

J.D. Drew today will get a second opinion on an undisclosed medical issue the Red Sox have concern about, according to a major league source familiar with Drew's condition.

The Sox expressed concern about the issue after the right fielder underwent a physical in Boston last week. The situation is the reason the five-year, $70 million deal struck at baseball's winter meetings nearly two weeks ago has not been finalized.

General manager Theo Epstein and other team officials did not return calls on the subject. When reached at his Georgia home, Drew said he was busy and could not comment.

It's not known whether the issue could be a deal-breaker, but it may cause some revision of guarantees or increase games-played clauses in place of guaranteed money. The issue also could force the Sox to shorten the deal.

The Sox and Drew's agent, Scott Boras, previously had said the hang-up was a language issue in the contract. Drew has had a number of injuries in his career, including patellar tendinitis in his knee while he played for the Cardinals, and injuries to his shoulder, back, and wrist.

Schilling announced on WEEI this morning that unlike he previously stated, he will NOT retire after the season...Pretty good news

Apparently his 2nd Physical showed literally no problems. So the contract is signed, but with Magglio Ordonez type voiding statements for the Sox.
