Default Re: SSNL POKER [cheese] thread SEPT

Props Felix!

Since I know you guys miss posts about goofyballer playing poker, here's how to play 2/4 NL by goofyballer:

1. Lose a lot of money in the first 30 minutes of session to coolers and suckouts
2. Cry
3. Tilt for 10 minutes
4. Regain composure
5. Play 1000 more hands to grind back losses and then a little bit more
6. ???
7. Profit!

This is how the last two days have gone, anyway, verbatim. Today was awful, I got overpairs in against donks with 45+ VPIPs like four times in the first hour of my session and they had me [censored] every time (YEAH LIKE I'M FOLDING ACES VS A 55/20 ON A 77334 BOARD IN UR DREAMS). I was prob stuck 4 buyins in that time, but I built up some solid stacks towards the end and may have won it back. I'm not positive, I haven't checked results in a few days and I'm gonna try not to until after I play tomorrow. I think that's a big motivator for playing longer sessions since I don't have a great idea when I'm stuck or even or up (I mean, I have an idea, but if I took a stab at how I was doing over the session it's probably got a margin of error of +/- 2 buyins) so it feels more like I'm playing for the long run than to "get back to even" or anything arbitrary like that. I think it keeps me in a better frame of mind while playing too.

While I won't have graphs until tomorrow, here are some examples of how good I'm running at hero calls the last couple days:

also, tournaments are definitely worth it. the SD is ridiculously high, so much so that many regular tournament players never see "the long run" in their careers, but to pass up the invisible ridiculous ROI is burning money.

[/ QUOTE ]

I go in waves w/ tournies. I was hell bent on winning an EPT seat, but soon got burnt out playing so many satellites. Also, bubbling satellites can make one suicidal. Once I start running good again I'll take another run at donkaments. Lately I just can't wait to get my chips in pf for some reason. I don't have patience for those evil things right now.

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree that donkaments are definitely worth it.. I've played about 600 or so (tiny sample size) and when I was playing regularly it was really just about playing high volume and smart poker and you'll eventually break through.. Smaller fields definitely help too to avoid all the land mines. That being said, I dunno if it's more +EV than some good player's expectation playing MSNL instead.

Plus I think a big deterrent for players is the time commitment.. seriously say goodbye to normal sleep patterns and say hello to 5 hours in front of the comp in a row. That and not knowing when your next score will come.. I think the biggest thing psychologically that couldn't make me a tournament player is watching my account dwindle with a downswing.. alright it is sorta the same for cash but less variance especially at SSNL... I do admire/envy people like Deeb, Thayer, Bond, Gobboboy, Rizen, etc who seem to always be making final tables and medium/big scores.. ahh maybe one day.

BGKnight, I know what you mean!! I'll be tip-toeing along in a donkament doing fine, but then I always feel this pressure to accumulate massive amounts of chips then I get it in bad or do something stupid.. patience is so key, ur really always just 2 double ups away in tournaments if you keep your head above water.

And ya, bubbling Sats sucks... when I first started online, maybe 6 months in, I was pretty bad, basically just played HOH1+2 style, I was in an EPT Deauville Sat and went out in the final 2 tables, something like 8 got seats.. If I knew then what I knew now maybe things would have been different. Hope to dump money this year on Coppenhagen Sats or PCA, see if I can luck-box my way to a package

nhs goofy, all of those calls are actually of the heroic variety, board seems to always get worse for your hand, good thing for reads. Notes: "Donk" is like all I ever need for reads.

I've noticed the only days where I put in hands is if I lose a couple stacks early.. If I'm up a couple buy-ins in the first couple hundred hands I usually just call it a day and go do something else, and if I'm down a couple, well... sleep is for the weak.

I have this exact same problem.

If I'm up, I want to quit and bank my win.
If I'm down, I'll play until the end of time to get even.

i've become obsessive with this stuff of late, although i've been improving at playing longer sessions after going up a couple of buyins early.

is playing until even really such a bad thing (assume tilt's not a factor)?
