At this point I'm thinking I'll only add one or two and adjust the levels a bit. So anyone else with suggestions should focus on just a couple titles. Thanks for the ideas.

I didn't realize I had to order them. I just threw them out there. Please place them in whatever order is in your head, oh great Wu-Tang doppelganger.

I happen to know the guy that wrote Logo and thought he would get a kick out of its mention here, so I sent him this list along with the note:

I don't know what it means that Logo is on the lowest "newbie" level; let's just assume its because its easy to learn (Assembly is as the top after all). But whatever the reason, I thought you'd appreciate the reference. I got a little chuckle.

His response:

Actually, that IS funny. I spent just a minute, but I can't find ANY systematic dimension that those orderings mesh. You could try "entry level," and maybe Logo would be first. But farther down the list, that doesn't work at all. Instead of "entry" you could to "most 'advanced' users," but that really doesn't work well since Boxer (as a kind of Logo) works well as a programing medium for "advanced" people like me, who just want to get things done and aren't professional programmers. Then, you could look at the "level" of the language, but then assembly would REALLY be at the bottom of the list, and Logo would be up there with Lisp. You could count the number of high-level constructs, and Fortran would be down there with Assembly. You could do "age since definition", but that's clearly not what they are doing.

It's a psychology experiment to figure out WHAT in Hell people were thinking about making this list. Actually, it would probably officially count as "primitive thinking" that they don't have any one thing in mind at all, but are sort of chaining from one to the next on different criteria.

Kurt,

Based off of that response your friend is a huge nerd, but at least he made some good out of it by creating a programming language.
