You'll likely do more time for a deer you kill and eat illegally than someone who commits a violent act for the first time. Does it make sense? Maybe not, but it doesn't matter, it's the law. You better know it before you break it.

[/ QUOTE ]

(disclaimer: I havent read the whole thread and I might be way off on what Im about to say).

This seems like its irrelevant. I doubt anyone in here is arguing what the law SAYS, but care more about what the law ought to say.

If the law were changed to give murderers no more than 20 days in prison, but shoplifters 10 years, annd people were outraged, would you really say "thats the law!!" as a counter argument?

Im not saying the two situtions are identical, but if he has a problem with a perceived imbalance in punishment, "its the law" doesnt really counter it, because I dont think he would debate it (obviously people arent going to get all up in arms about laws they dont like that arent actual laws)

[ QUOTE ]
Anyone who TORTURES another living organism degrades all of humanity, and should be punished accordingly.

[/ QUOTE ]

But only if the living organism is furry and domesticated.

Remember, on draft day, NFL network showed a live feed of the #3 pick in the draft removing a living organism from it's habitat, suffocating it, and then proceeding to freeze it alive.

Peter King of SI, and many at ESPN and other sports media lauded Joe Thomas for "down to earth" qualities and for skipping the fanfare of the draft and spending the day fishing with his dad.

People have gotten in trouble for the ritual killing of chickens as part of getting ready for games and training. It's not only mammals.

Fish cant be tortured.

Whether fish even have the capacity to feel pain at all is debated; however, I dont think anyone with substantial knowledge would say this capacity is great enough to consider the act of killing a fish as 'torture'

This is ridiculous. Debated by whom?

Fish have pain nerves. Animals need them to live.

By "tortune", I don't mean hunting or fishing for food. I mean killing an animal for pleasure or out of meaness

Once again, only if the animal is furry and domesticated.

Unless you be eating the cockroaches after stepping on them.

I agree and disagree with a lot of points here. what baffles me...I mean REALLY CONFUSES me,

is that what would be a good argument that Vick shouldnt get prison. we can reopen arguments whether we punish people who kill animals same way as humans or whatever.

But what could be the argument in favor of vick not even going to prison. I am not suggesting life sentence. something like 2-3 years and maybe ban from NFL for 7-8 years.

does anyone think this is unreasonable ?? ban for life is too harsh. i am more in favor of 5-8 years.
