Wtf possible reason do you need for a phone at school, I don't remember anyone ever having a valid reason for it

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]
I brought my cell phone to high school because I would often go to work or some friend's house after school

[/ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]

These reasons are retarted, do you know that kids went to other peoples houses or work before mobile phones were invented.

[/ QUOTE ]
Do you know that people went to bars/called clients/did whatever you do with cell phones before they were invented? Of course I know that. I didn't use my phone in class and it was always on silent. My cell phone has NEVER rang during a presentation/class/whatever in my life, it's not hard to do either. You guys are all being retarded acting like a kid bringing a phone to school is 100% retarded and inexcusable. Of course I could use the school's phone or a payphone or the phone at my job or a friends phone or a god damn smoke signal. But it's a hell of a lot easier to just have a cell phone and not be a dick with it.

[/ QUOTE ]

Do you believe that "has never rang" is correct grammar? If so, perhaps you should have paid more attention in class and less time on your precious cell phone.

"These kids today, they don't know grammar like we did."

[/ QUOTE ]

you sir, are a prick

Reasonable is a judgement call.

[/ QUOTE ]

And something tells me it will always be 100% according to YOUR judgement.

[ QUOTE ]
I can identify the non-parenting parents by their replies in this thread.

[/ QUOTE ]

FYP. Also, I can identify the parents who will be first in line to blame the school when their child falls behind in class.

[ QUOTE ]
My kid is 3. If he was 13, he would have a cell phone on him every minute he was not with me. Kids need to be able to communicate with parents. Removing that ability is a safety risk.

[/ QUOTE ]

Can you tell me a time AT SCHOOL that a student cannot get in touch w/ a responsible adult? Or that if there really was an emergency that a student would not be allowed to call a parent? Or if the parent had an emergency that calling the school would perhaps be BETTER because the phone is off during class/in a locker at PE..etc.

There was a parent who came to a meeting about a class field trip to let everyone know there child was allergic to peanuts therefore none of the other 60 students could bring peanut butter sandwiches. This is you.

[ QUOTE ]
And don't give me the "just call the school" bs. Good luck calling a school with 400 or 4000 students and actually getting through to someone who can find your kid.

[/ QUOTE ]

BAHAHAHHAHAHA

[ QUOTE ]
Stupid rules like this are why my kids are going to going to private school where someday, with the help of my attitude they will turn out well rounded and emotionally balanced , not try to enforce rediculous rules for teacher convienience.

[/ QUOTE ]

FYP.

Again, I feel that alot of "rules" apply except where your child is concerned. Rediculous...please. It's just that when infractions are repeated over and over by a child, it speaks to the parenting of the child and alot of adults don't want to hear that so the "rules" have got to be stupid or the "school" is the one failing our children.

here is one, what if you leave school early and drive off, can they take your car for 30 days too?

[/ QUOTE ]

No. They will just revoke his parking privileges and junior can then either ride the bus, ride with friends or get dropped off by mommy.

[/ QUOTE ]

so a different punishment that doesn't involve seizing property?

[/ QUOTE ]

He isn't driving his car into class. If you can't see the difference then whatever.

No one is arguing that seizure is the only valid punishment; however, since this school's policy is seizure and this parent agreed to abide by the policy (either implicitly or explicitly) it does not seem the school is in the wrong here.

This parent is probably the same guy who welshes on prop bets when he loses by saying, "I was just joking" or "You're not serious".

We have become so intellectually lazy as a society that we go out of our way to protect against things that might happen.

Nevermind that there are already mechanisms in place to deal with somebody being disruptive in class. We must now remove all temptation. And the mere sight of one of these evil devices warrants punishment.

Nevermind that there is a percentage of students who practice responsible cell phone use, we must dumb down the rules for the stupid.

It's not an inconvienance, it's da rules. And, like many of you who have said -- da rules is da rules. Government is proud of you. You have learned well. No reprogramming for you!

How about we reward the percentage of the population that is not retarded, insead of bringing them down?

Pointing out grammatical errors is a personal attack? That's a new one.

I think we old'uns all understand that the kids like having cell phones at school and that it's more convenient than having to walk down to the office to call mommy.

But again, all this crap about "I/my kids need a cell phone at school for safety/emergencies" is just a big red herring. That is not why kids have cell phones at school. They have them to call their friends and text their buddies and take pictures and goof off.

If you think that's really important for kids to have at school, fine. But stop pretending that this whole debate is about safety and protecting our precious little ones from all the bad things that might happen at school.

I'm not sure I understand this... what are these "things that might happen" you are talking about. The cell phones rules were reacting to the disruptive use of cell phones at school. There were a bunch of kids playing with their personal little noisemakers in class and not paying attention, so the schools said "no noisemakers in class." Not sure how supporting that kind of rule makes us a bunch of fascists.

Welcome to life in a civilized society. So you also believe we shouldn't have rules regarding theft, rape and murder because 99% of citizens would never commit them. Rules are set so that the malcontents in society have fair warning before they are punished. If this were the Wild West, the teacher would have just put a bullet in the offending cell phone and continued class.

Maybe schools should adopt the WWMHD (What Would Mr. Hand Do) philosophy.

When my daughter is old enough to go to school, I wonder if a teacher will confiscate her holographic, brain implant, telepathic phone.

If so, they'd better not use one of those nasal-entry telescoping claws that Douglas Quaid had to use. I'd sue.
