Re: NLCS: Rocks vs Backs
[ QUOTE ]
Rockies played better, but the game was a lot closer than the score indicated. Rockies got a bloop single with bases loaded and 2 outs that scored two runs. D'Backs got a deep fly with bases loaded and 2 outs that could easily have been a grand slam if the bat was 1/8th higher. Don't write Arizona off yet, people have been doing that all year. [/ QUOTE ] True enough. Plus that bunt down the third base line was truly a thing of beauty and the D'Backs had some other nice plays. It's easy to get a quick funk when expectations are high. After all it was only 2 or 3 years ago us D'Backs fans had to suffer through a 51 win season. But all that aside, this series is still very much up for grabs. The D'Backs have shown resiliency and stick togetherness all season that will see them through. And win or lose they have accomplised much this season and the team can be proud of that. Re: NLCS: Rocks vs Backs
[ QUOTE ]
On the D-Backs: Their lineup does suck really badly. You can talk about the blowout losses, you can talk about all their young studs underperforming PECOTA, you can talk about bullpen leverage, but they overperformed their W3 by 12 [censored] games. That's sheer luck. They suck. They're a 80 win team at best. [/ QUOTE ] I think their W3 over-performance is more like 5-6 games, if you adjust for Melvin's habit of throwing in terrible end of the bullpen/rotation pitchers in games he didn't deem winnable. [ QUOTE ] But here's the good thing. In the postseason, baseball isn't about matchups or coaching or w/e the way basketball and football can be. It's about sheer goddamn luck. And it's pretty damn easy to get lucky 4 times, especially when you have Brandon Webb still throwing one or possibly two of those times. It's rockies -262 right now. That's not good for the D-Backs, but it really isn't all that much. The Rockies are better, and they're a game up, but 7 games is a complete crapshoot when it comes to baseball. [/ QUOTE ] The problem is that our one standout starter lost and he's only going to pitch one more time in this series, so we are in a huge hole. I think Doug Davis and Micah Owings are better than people realize, but instead of Micah we are pitching Livan in game three and he stinks. So even if Davis wins tonight, we are still in a big hole. |

Re: NLCS: Rocks vs Backs
I don't know if that was true about that being the longest Valverde's pitched all season, but if it was, Game 2 of the NLCS is a really bad spot to try him out for multiple innings. At least let him pitch 2 innings once or twice in the regular season first so you have a better idea on his stamina and that he's more confident when in that situation.

Re: NLCS: Rocks vs Backs
here's Owings to pinch hit with 1 out in the 11th, down by 1.

Re: NLCS: Rocks vs Backs
It's not the innings (he's done that several times), it was the number of pitches.
