I was at a bar in Montreal order three drinks it comes to $18 give bartender a 20. As she reaches for the cahsier I say "keep the change" she responds "you realize this is only a 10% tip". I respond "Don't worry I'll tip you out later." She says "well a lot of people say that and don't" I say "Okay" and walk away obviously don't tip her again for the rest of the night.

If I wasn't drunk or felt like getting into it I probably would have just been like uhhh WTF give me $2 back bitch.

[/ QUOTE ]

this is so horrendously noobish... you know the tipping etiquette is different in canada right? you tip per drink, your tip was a stiff, i'm amazed you got served the rest of the night.

how do you people seriously not tip per drink at a bar? wtf? amateur drinkers i say

[/ QUOTE ]

what are you talking about? he basically did tip per drink. he tipped 67 cents a drink instead of a dollar.

what does that even mean "tip per drink" as if it's different than in the US?

have you ever even been to a bar?

elaboration in anticipation of your stupid-ass response:

whatever the accepted amount to tip per drink is in currency (and it is damn sure not <$1/drink unless you're a horrific cheapskate) then you tip that much per drink. so for 3 drinks that come to $18 you give her $21 (or $25 and get change), although imo getting 3+ drinks at once is an extra buck usually so i'd have given her $22

if it helps you ingrates function better, try adding $1 to the menu cost of every alcoholic beverage (assuming they're <$8; over that adjust as you see fit... actually ask some normal human, i don't want to leave it up to you) ... factor that in before you head out to your watering holes...

no you tip per drink everywhere, if you're a decent human being, the difference is it's expected a lot more in canada than it is here, eg depending on where you are you can get tossed from a bar / refused to be served for not tipping

now, how is the tipping etiquette different in canada? i say it is not. everyone i know tips per drink. as far as i know that is totally standard in the US. so how is it different again? you yourself admit that you tip per drink everywhere. the guy's tab was 18 and he left a 20. is it a big deal? he didn't stiff anyone. i know if someone told me they left a 20 on an 18 dollar 3 drink tab, my first reaction woudln't be WTF? DON'T YOU KNOW YOU TIP PER DRINK! YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT TWENTY ONE DOLLARS YOU CHEAP BASTARD, WOW YOU ARE SO INCREDIBLY CHEAP!!

I'm not sure that giving a bartender three bucks to hand me 3 bottles of beer is related to being a decent human being.

I'm calling BS on Mbillie. Reason being is I worked for several years at a restaurant that was frequented by many Canadian tourists. Canadians are notoriously bad tippers. I refuse to believe it is Canadian custom to tip on a per drink basis.

In honor of mbillie I'm gonna stiff a random bartender for no reason, within the next week.

it is expected that you'll tip with every drink. most people do that here, yes, but if you don't they aren't going to short your next gin and tonic. getting a drink and not tipping when you get that specific drink is considered bad form. if i give the bartender a 5 when i get my first 2 drinks and skip the next 2 tips that's fine, averages out, etc... that would be awkward fwiw from all the bars in montreal i've frequented. obviously if you order >1 drink and tip >1 penny then you can determine a "tip per drink" amount like 67 cents... you are not hearing me

also you suck, your name is stupid, and your avatar looks like a giant d-bag, tthric etc
