Jim you seem like a geniune guy i wish you robusto. So many haters here unfortunately.

[/ QUOTE ]

Are you a high stakes player? Then this sentiment would make a lot more sense.

[/ QUOTE ]

I grind for a living at lower stakes. I think players like Jim are great for the poker economy and i can't figure out why everyone wants to turn him away.

After reading his blog, i am slightly saddened by him also.

he is playing for fun

[/ QUOTE ]

Also, this isn't really true. If I was playing for fun I would deposit an affordable amount that didn't interfere with my life. As it is, I don't know where lunch is coming from. "He is playing because he is addicted and unwilling to help himself" would be more accurate.

jimm i will say this tho, it doesnt take any skill at all to 'spin up' money, i mean ive seen people spin up $20 -> thousands at pokie machines and then lose it. just do it, have fun and dont kid yourself.

[/ QUOTE ]

Of course that's a bad analogy since I was playing against other players, not a machine. A better analogy would be to say a big spin-up is like accumulating a huge stack in a tournament. You need some luck, you need to play well - in short, you need to run good. You can't usually get there without both the luck and the ability.

Jerry Yang excluded.

Anyway the staking deal never came off. The idea had been the guy would send me £25 ten times, on the basis that at least one of those times I would have a good spin-up and be able to pay him back and make a profit. Well, the guy sent me £50 one time which I lost, and then decided I was some sort of degenerate compulsive gambler - which of course he knew from the start - and having promised to send me more money on Friday, infuriatingly changed his mind and got all [censored] moral on me. Oh, and the kind gentleman from Chicago sent me $150 midweek which sadly I tilted away. So when I play it will be my own money.
