Did you think I was asking who "wants" them? I was asking if anyone else would like to review them before I do. |

No, I thought maybe Dido and Jewel were your examples of, like, poppy VH1 stuff that, now that we've run out of osbcure artists, let's start with them. I don't know, it made sense in my head. |

Re: Female Singer/Songwriter Thread
ladies of gothic metal
i haven't read this whole thread, but i highly doubt these lovely ladies or anyone similar has been brought up in it...these women front metal bands with or without an accompanying male vocalist...some of them help with writing as well... +Tarja - (ex lead singer of Nightwish) this lady just has a beautiful opera style voice, that combined with their music works very well, her attitude and aappearance also help give the music an ethereal mystical quality that i really like... Over the Hills Cover - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UztE...ed&search= Sleeping Sun - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmDWv...eature=related slaying the Dreamer - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUYT0CAaqeo +Anette - (current singer of Nightwish) Anette has a much different style than Tarja, but i think once people can separate the old school verse the new era of the band they can still appreciate it...she has a much more pop style of singing as well as her appearance...I saw them in concert about two weeks ago and she put on quite a performance, and her voice holds up quite well live... Amaranth - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdZn7k5rZLQ Sahara - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nL9VK...eature=related +Simone Simons - (lead singer Epica) very young lady with a beautiful voice, this band is a little heavier than nightwish and has a bit different combo of opera style vocals with a more death grunting style male vocalist... Cry For The Moon - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dys1_TuUmI4 Never Enough - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfLtA8SkmVw +Charlotte Wessels - lead singer Delain a much newer band that i just recently found out about and cant get enough of...they are much softer than the other bands, but maybe something more people will find accessible... Frozen - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4Jads5ShMM --------------------------- And one more for fun +Otep - lead singer Otep a little different, this isn't gothic metal, just metal...i've seen them live and this chick is hot in the "punky scary chicks are hot" kind of way...the scary part is definitely there though and yes that is really her screaming Warhead - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfLnDUPmP4s Tric - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMmmkbc9he0 -hopefully all the links work and are ok quality, im writing this from work...and sorry for no pictures... |

[/ QUOTE ] If you like Dido, Holly Brook reminds me a lot of an American equivalent: http://www.myspace.com/hollybrook She sang the hook on the Fort Minor song, "Where did you go", but I much prefer her song Wanted. Just about all the videos on YouTube are anime for some weird reason, so I tried to find the least goofy one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nssQ9g16Vts |

Re: Female Singer/Songwriter Thread
Joan Baez:
I am probably the only person under 30 in the world who likes her music. Wiki says it best: Joan Chandos Baez (born January 9, 1941) is an American folk singer and songwriter known for her highly individual vocal style. She is a soprano with a three-octave vocal range[1] and a distinctively rapid vibrato. Many of her songs are topical and deal with social issues Joan, always honest, aware, and soothing through it all. Diamonds and Rust Meh, I don't like her live stuff, but if you are into it, take a look. If anyone is able to find some recorded stuff, please post it. |

Hi Thirdan:
Otep: LOL. Sorry, but I totally busted out laughing. Annette is better than Tarja, IMO, also see my review of Genitorturers (you weren't first) |

Re: Female Singer/Songwriter Thread
Lacuna coil is good.
The scream made me laugh, and her attitude. Hell of a woman! Nu Metal sucks. I am old enough, and been to enough underground clubs, to know about the real thing. Used to wear all black and bleach my hair. These days, I can still stand some industrial. But lets be honest: No matter how much you love being "wet down" at a Gwar concert, and love their shirts, you would never buy a CD. |

Re: Female Singer/Songwriter Thread
daveT, we could probably do a whole thread on novelty type musical acts...the pics of gwar alone would be worth it
