Re: For Dissection....2008 Red Sox Roster........
Pretty solid deal. His third year will likely suck but still I'm glad we get to hang onto Jacoby. Now, what happens to Crisp? Does he have any trade value at this point or does he ride the bench and play the occasional game here and there?

Jacoby could probably start once or twice a week and be a frequent defensive sub for Manny. Manny is fairly old now, resting him more is a good idea prob that said, if we could trade Coco for a good young catcher, I think that would be ideal |

As long as the Coco ---> Laird deal doesn't happen I am happy. Awesome to get Lowell for 3yrs. Good deal.

[/ QUOTE ] not that urgent imo, having both him and ellsbury around is great, and ellsbury's apparent 'readiness' is based on a pretty small sample size. he could slump next year as people review video and look for holes in his swing. |

Re: For Dissection....2008 Red Sox Roster........
A little birdie says the Boston Red Sox have become the favorite in the Johan Santana trade sweepstakes.
The Twins would receive four players for the Twins' two-time Cy Young Award winner, including center fielder Coco Crisp, 28. Others would be shortstop prospect Jed Lowry, 23; left-handed pitcher Jon Lester, 23; and right-handed pitcher Justin Masterson, 22. ... The New York Yankees don't have the prospects available who the Twins figure have a reasonable chance to play in the major leagues by the end of 2008 http://www.twincities.com/walters oh god jesus [censored] yes fksdfkjl santana without giving up ellsbury or buchholz = sickkkkkkkk beckett/santana/daisuke/schilling/buchholz = sickkkkkkkk please dont let this fall apart after getting me exciting pls pls pls |

I really thought the Sox were just getting involved to drive the price up, but could this really happen? That rotation would be so ridiculous.

That is actually a reasonable package of prospects for Santana.

That is actually a reasonable package of prospects for Santana. [/ QUOTE ] This would be a huge deal for the Twins, much better than I thought they'd get. So long as the Red Sox re-sign Santana, it would have to be considered a win for them as well, even though they're giving up more long term value. Question about Crisp. If a player is traded in the middle of a long term contract, he can opt out in to free agency at the end of that season. Is there a service time requirement for this to go into affect? I can't imagine the Twins would do this deal if Crisp were going to hit the market after 2008, although Lowrie, Lester, Masterson, and one year of Crisp, and a draft pick or two is still a pretty good haul. |
