As soon as possible and follow it up with "...and that's why I don't really love you." [/ QUOTE ] Along these lines, don't forget to also tell your biological children that they are adopted too. |

I'd start telling them before they even fully understand what that meant. I can't see why it would be better to give a kid a false identity before telling the truth. [/ QUOTE ] If you adopted the child days after birth, are you giving him/her a false identity? |

If you keep them locked in the basement, they'll figure it out on their own soon enough.

Yeah, just tell them very early in a straightforward way. There's nothing to be ashamed of. There's no point in having a big "surprise!! you're adopted!" moment.

I've never understood why anyone thinks this is a big deal. I figure if you raise the kid to have enough self-confidence and -esteem this crap shouldn't really matter to him/her all that much anyway. |

If they really are adopted? Never. If they're not? Work it into the conversation whenever you can.

You tell them they were adopted very early. The reality is that they usually know something is wrong anyway because they dont look or act like the rest of the family.
18 is a very traumatic age to find out and her adoptive parents are child abusers. |
