Re: Thoughts on this resteal?
Depends on their level of thinking, and if they are reading the boards too...
I made this same play with 78s the other night, button thought and called with 67s. He thought he was calling with 2 live cards (which he typed into the chat box). I was very happy to see the 67... I do not like the resteal with A-low... Almost any larger A is calling.... |

But I'm sure he was just a donk and was like 67 cant be behind here! |

[ QUOTE ] 64s rather than A4s. At the very least you should have live cards if you are called. [/ QUOTE ] I totally agree with this. After I made the play, I wasn't so mad about MAKING the resteal itself, but I was like wow, I probably shouldn't of done that with an Ace. Basically, if I had to do this again, I would, but not with A4. I would have preferred 89s or 54 etc etc. [/ QUOTE ] Ugh. NOooooooooooooooooooooo. A4s is better than 64s against any pretty much any feasible calling range (unless you've decided he ONLY calls your push with big aces). Check it: equity (%) win (%) tie (%) Hand 1: 35.9373 % 34.12% 01.82% { A4s } Hand 2: 64.0627 % 62.24% 01.82% { 77+, A9s+, KQs, ATo+, KQo } --------- equity (%) win (%) tie (%) Hand 1: 32.2867 % 32.00% 00.28% { 64s } Hand 2: 67.7133 % 67.43% 00.28% { 77+, A9s+, KQs, ATo+, KQo } ---------- This is a pretty damn tight range for villian, and A4s does better than 64s. Incidentally, this is pretty much as bad as it gets for A4s. The looser we make villian's calling range, the stronger A4s becomes (while 64s does about the same): equity (%) win (%) tie (%) Hand 1: 39.0989 % 36.58% 02.51% { A4s } Hand 2: 60.9011 % 58.39% 02.51% { 44+, A7s+, KTs+, QJs, A8o+, KJo+ } -------------- equity (%) win (%) tie (%) Hand 1: 33.9976 % 33.64% 00.36% { 64s } Hand 2: 66.0024 % 65.64% 00.36% { 44+, A7s+, KTs+, QJs, A8o+, KJo+ } ------------ Add to that the fact that the fact that you have an ace in your hand greatly lowers the possibility that he is holding a hand with which he will call you, and restealing with an ace is almost always going to be better than with a suited connector. Anyway, I'm not saying you should never resteal with suited connectors. You can resteal with two uno cards if the time is right. Just don't fool yourself into thinking that they are a stronger hand against hands that villian will call with than an ace. Along those lines, I like the push in the OP, and think it is almost certainly profitable against all but the strangest ranges for the button (conceivably, if the button had a very tight opening range and a very loose calling range, this would likely be unprofitable). As a default, it's a good push. |
