Re: Learning to play poker (LONG)
A fine post Cosimo!
One question, something that seems a bit contradictory. You'll raise KQo in EP, but not AJo??? [ QUOTE ] I don't play AJo in EP. It's too easily dominated. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I've been raising KQo in EP for a while. [/ QUOTE ] Yes you said KQo depends on the table, but that hand will be dominated much more often the AJo. |

[ QUOTE ]
His post is correct to a certain extent. However, his emphasis on preflop is a little much. [..] That's not to say that preflop play is a completely solved problem, but I'd say it's a lot closer than any post flop play, AND it's by far the easiest to teach a new player. [/ QUOTE ] Because it probably is the easiest part to learn, pre-flop discussion is a great opener for any series (and I sure hope to see some "continuation posts" from the OP). Furthermore, if your pre-flop play is bad there's little chance you'll be able to recover post-flop. I believe that even a perfect post-flop player will find it hard to make a losing hand make him money when thrown into the game post-flop. And as mentioned in SSHE: While pre-flop mistakes usually aren't expensive, you get the chance to make them far more often. This can add up to a nasty sum. |

[/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I've been raising KQo in EP for a while. [/ QUOTE ] Yes you said KQo depends on the table, but that hand will be dominated much more often the AJo. [/ QUOTE ] The only reason why I'm more weary of AJo than KQo is that people love to play Axs and A-rag so much in the limits I play in. So reverse domination is a real danger. A raise from EP should theoretically take care of that, but theories don't meet the micro limits all that often. |
