eh. the only scientifically sound study that has ever shown brain damage caused by ecstasy ended up being wrong. they people they were studying were using crystal meth and not ecstasy. i'm sure it's not good for you but taking it once isn't going to turn your brain into swiss cheese.

ps: the kids call it E now, not X

[/ QUOTE ]

I've seen lots of scientifically sound studies on this.
Citation for the one you're talking about?
(Agree that one or a few uses isn't as big a problem as people make it out to be - otherwise we're all [censored].)

mason,

From what I understand, Rduke is a brain scientist!

EDIT: Spelling.

[/ QUOTE ]

I am!
And I used to work on the serotonin and dopamine systems so I've seen much of the research on this.

Rduke -

I am not disagreeing that it's not good for you. Just pointing out that the main study that used to be cited by everyone was pulled back. I'm sure there are others and I'm in absolutely no position to be arguing one way or the other.

Oh, I'm not saying you were. I'm just wondering which study you're talking about. Of course there is crap arguing each side, you have to sift through a lot of that to get to where you need to be.

The uncool kids maybe. I call it X, and make fun of people who call it E. X is about a ten times better letter and you get to use it less than 10 times as often as "E", so I really think you should take any opportunity you can to use X.

In southern california, I've never once heard it called "X" except by a narc. Here, people call it "E".

...Not that I'd know anything about that....

It was the *only* study cited by the ONDCP for some years. When it was retracted, the ONDCP pulled down their entire page on MDMA, and had not basis for the claims that it was harmful as suggested in the study.

MDMA is a neurotoxin.

And so is the dangerous and LEGAL dug, Alcohol.

If alcohol is the "measuring stick" of what can be legal and tolerated in society, then I'll say that most of the substances on Schedules 1 through 5 of the CSA are inappropriately restricted.

rduke,
I'm sure mason's talking about the Ricaurte study where they gave monkeys a huge dose of MDMA and reported that it resulted in massive structural changes in the brain. Then later they had to retract their paper because they had somehow mixed up the methamphetamine and MDMA containers, and gave the monkeys meth instead of E.

I wasn't aware that the scientific consensus was so clear on permanent negative effects of MDMA. Can you point me to a couple articles?
