I don't know if this qualifies as the closest to death, but astroglide has the gnarliest stories ever

bacterial meningitis...
Almost decided to "sleep it off" instead of going to the hospital to see why my damn neck was so stiff and I felt like my body was one big ache. I was thoroughly owned by the whole experience but did live. Spinal taps suck.

Similar but I didnt wreck. I was racing a friend downa tight road, going aroudn a turn I must of hit some Sand and my rear end kicked out i started to spin and to my left was a huge drop off the car stalled right before the edge. Thats not the end of it though, the car started to Roll back wards and with out the engine on I had no power. I got the car started pretty quickly and was able to get back on the road pretty quickly

On a motorbike, head on into a car that pulled out of a sideroad and drove into me, pretty much head on. Luckily I didn't even have time to brake, and effectively somersaulted over the car and landed on my ass, and bust open the front of my calf from the impact. That and a badly damaged knee joint were my only injuries, thank goodness.

fishing when I was 12 at a local pier. Idiot with a 12 foot pole decided it would be a good idea to cast sideways instead of over his head. 6 oz. pyramid shaped weight hit me just under the temple, cut me to the skull, ripped my ear in half and then came out. Multiple veins and arteries were cut. The veins were spraying a fine mist of blood (I could see it spraying), arteries were pumping blood about 15 feet. I honestly thought there's no way i'd live. Guy that hit me immediately took off his shirt and pressed it to my head really really hard. I lost about 2 pints, but an ambulance ride and 500 stitches later, I made it.
