Minbet when bluffing
Bet everything except a tiny amount when valuebetting to give them 2 options (call, and raise) |

Re: Unpredictable players
Good point... no all ins when you've got a great hand, since they'll fold half the time. Bet almost all of it and they'll only fold 1/3 of the time, the rest of the time they call or put you all in.

Re: Unpredictable players
[ QUOTE ]
I do have a question about "randomness" which is that is he selecting from "check, bet, fold, raise" and then selecting a random number, or is he just choosing a random number from the start and betting to that much, or raising to that much if less is out there? [/ QUOTE ] Everything's random. He might c/r all-in with 83o or check AA through the river. Basically, an opponent whose play has zero correlation with his hand. So you have no info on him... Here's my solution: You actually have some measure of control over the Randoms. You can choose to play after an unusually high # of folders, when you have a premium hand. As long as you can guarantee there will be no more than 3 opponents in a pot, I think you'll be fine. Would 4 opponents be EV+ with a premium hand? I'm no statistics whiz, but let's look at this... A Random's choices are 1) Check 2) Call 3) Raise 4) Fold I don't know why I think this, but with 4 choices, it's probably EV+ to have 3 or less opponents while you hold a premium hand. And it's probably EV+ to force opponents to fold ASAP... So they don't reach later streets and have a chance of outdrawing your premium hand. How can you "force" a Random to fold? Well, let's say you had AKs on flop KT6 rainbow. You would do lots of minraising on the flop... to force the Randoms to cycle through the decision-making process as much as possible, in the hopes most (if not all) will fold before the Turn.... Eh? |

Re: Unpredictable players
Alright I just realized that there is some overlap between the 4 choices. A Random obviously can't check after a raise.
And I also forgot "Bet" as a choice... but in the context of available choices it's the same thing as "Raise." I don't wanna navigate through all that lol. But would it change my belief that no more than 3 opponents is EV+? |

Re: Unpredictable players
You know I still have poker academy around... it would be fairly straightforward to make a "random" bot player and pit it against the normal players, and to also make one that tries my own strategy to see how it does. Maybe later this week if I have time.

Re: Unpredictable players
Sweet... I'd like to see the results of that.
I considered this Random thing while playing 1c2c NLHE. Of course the play there is nowhere near random... but it is insane. At 2c5c, people show some measure of thinking... but 1c2c is unpredictable. I wondered if by examing the most extreme case - truly random players - I could gain some insight into how to beat 1c2c. (Yeah, I know, tighten up, value bet, never bluff... but I wanted to learn more). |
