Iron The Great Moderator of Personal Standards,

Please let me know which avatar size you think is appropriate.

Thanks!

To make my point, it was taking me 15 seconds to download each of the larger avatars on my broadband connection at work.

Well they shouldn't all take you 15 seconds to download since some are smaller than others.

Please let me know which one is an appropriate download time for you so I have something to work with.

Thanks a bunch!

iron,

If you're having problems w/ these graphics, I recommend you give Lynx a try.

kk,

Try upgrading to an OC-48, that thing loaded in under a second for me.

Somewhere in Afghanistan there's a 2+2 lurker with a 2400 baud modem whose forum experience just improved by ~5% because of iron's tireless campaigning against large avatars.

Might as well address this now. The way all of this is handled on 2+2 is going to change in the near future. With vB we will be hosting instead of using remote avatars. There are benefits to doing it that way for us, including the process being somewhat safer and more user friendly. But we'll obviously have to set a real limit somewhere. While the final number has yet to be decided, it's most likely going to be somewhere between 150 and 350.

Expect to see a more detailed announcement about what else you guys should know about the switch later this weekend.
