I dunno if it is -ev to play those hands but what it does do is hemerage money away. When blinds only hit you 2 out 9 hands, but you are inclined to make that number clsoer to 4 or 5 you are going to have lower stacks earlier, and forced to start raising ATC at lower levels. This puts you at higher risk to get called, and ultimately ruins your table image. Also, if you are playing against someone intellegent they will note your limping ways, and take advantage of it later on.

The only times I ever limp preflop are when I am trying to trap HU, or if I accidentally click "Call" instead of "Fold"

By the way, in a limped pot, you very frequently don't get paid off, and when you do get action, it is often by someone with a good draw against you, or a better hand.

ok more information..

Let's say you're only looking for 2 pair or better? I understand the argument about single pair weak kicker. You're looking for 2 pair, trips or better. If you don't hit, you've only invested a small amount.

Is it still -ev playing this way?

Yes, because you will flop those hands so infrequently you will not be getting the correct odds to call pre-flop pretty much ever. You also still have a bad reverse implied odds situation with a lot of these hands.

I think... no matter how loose or tight you play, or what position you're in, merely limping in will never turn a profit. Too tight, and the blinds over comeyou. Too loose, and your own bets overcome you. Best case scenario, you'll break even over the long run...

You must bet once in awhile - at the very least, value bet.

But I guess you could turn a profit if you're really good at playing your opponents and it doesn't much matter what cards you have...

I know I didn't answer your question exactly. But you made me think...
