Re: Floor say you cant win the pot without cards
the dealer cant profit from his killing of a live hand. so utg should win the pot or at least get his money back if someone else comes in. you must protect your hand but you cant help it if someone takes it away.
but i always say hold your cards when in a pot especially if near the dealer. and never release them until All other hands are gone and the pot is coming your way and within reach. |

[/ QUOTE ] This should be the first thing that anyone learns when getting started with poker. It would prevent so many problems, and it's so simple. |

Re: Floor say you cant win the pot without cards
How can a casino legally allow players to deal? Well I guess since it's outside the US other laws govern gambling, but that just seems like a really bad situation. Almost seems like going back in time 100 years.

Re: Floor say you cant win the pot without cards
A place around here has player-dealt draw lowball. It's a niche market nowadays, not worth training dealers or maintaining a table for the few who want to play it here and there. Those players probably wouldn't tip anyway, perhaps another reason it's player-dealt. It's also a lot simpler than a board game.

How can a casino legally allow players to deal? Well I guess since it's outside the US other laws govern gambling, but that just seems like a really bad situation. Almost seems like going back in time 100 years. [/ QUOTE ] A bar in downtown Redmond, OR used to allow dealers to play sometimes. The "room" just had a couple tables and was a very friendly game so it was fairly informal and nobody really minded. The State of Oregon shut down poker games in the area ~1yr ago and a couple survived, I think by circumventing gambling laws by having players deal. I haven't played poker there since that happened though so I'm not positive what the deal is. EDIT: article [ QUOTE ] The district attorney said the state's law is clear about what is illegal gambling. "If you want to have space in a bar or other establishment to let people play poker or blackjack, you can't rent the space, can't provide the dealer and the dealer has to be a player," Dugan said. "You can only provide a place for players to play." Any evidence of nonplayers making money off the game in the form of dealers making tips or the house profiting from the game is illegal, he said. [/ QUOTE ] So apparently these poker rooms aren't actually going to be profitable for the business running them? Hrm. |
