Re: Which hand would you rather have? 86s, AJo, KQo
[ QUOTE ]
The parameters: Loose, donkfilled 2/5 NL game, 300 min, 500 max. Most pots are 6 handed or so. [/ QUOTE ] Please, Please, Please reveal location. Even I could beat this game. Don't think I've ever seen an average 6 players to the flop.....even on the penny tables. |

Kansas City, MO. They have no 1/2 NL, so this is the lowest game available. Also, this was a specific night, not necessarily constant game conditions.

Re: Which hand would you rather have? 86s, AJo, KQo
AJ would be my least favorite choice in a game full of donks who call preflop raises with Ax. Your opponents are more likely to have 2 pair when you flop an Ace with AJ. With KQ your top pair is more likely the best hand because even donks know to fold K5o, Q2o, etc. These donks ought to call you down with middle pair, gutshots, and all kinds of crap, right? You're also more likely to flop top pair with KQ than you are with AJ. Variance will be high when every pot is 6 handed and the donks will suck out quite a bit, but with top pair you'll clean house over the long run. Make Sklansky proud!

"You're also more likely to flop top pair with KQ than you are with AJ."
Rest of your post is OK, but it would be fair to say that this lacks validity/relevance. |

Re: Which hand would you rather have? 86s, AJo, KQo
I should add that it can be easy to over-value top pair in NL. With full stacks against good opponents you will be giving them big reverse implied odds and setminers will destroy you if you don't recognize them. You'll only get action when your top pair is beat. But in a game full of calling station donkeys they will call you down when your top pair is the best hand, so top pair is the nuts.

Re: Which hand would you rather have? 86s, AJo, KQo
typical players in KC are extremely weak-tight postflop players btw. it's pretty [censored] tough to stack them except with coolers. you have a lot of FE with your draws against the regs, and if you hit an obvious draw you will not get paid off. My edge in that game usually came from just setting up a tight image and then stealing some pots here and there in addition to picking up the pots where I actually had the best hand.

[/ QUOTE ] wait, what? there is 1/2 NL in Kansas City the 2/5 can still be pretty good though on weekends [/ QUOTE ] well, it wasn't me who was actually at the game. this came from another board where a guy posted some hands, and lost his $1500 roll playing 2/5, some people asked why he was playing $3-500 when his roll was 1500 and he said that they didn't have NL less than 300 buyin in KC. A discussion then came up about preflop hands, so I posted to get a general consensus. |
