so-so but super expensive benefits, you sit in front of a screen for 50 hours a week. And, you get to contemplate suicide about every 4 minutes.

slightly FYP and you just described the job I just left. playing 5/10 doesnt look so bad now eh? But yeah I wouldn't be giving it a shot if I wasn't playing 8/16 and 10/20 about 40% of the time.

Where Brass lives, playing 5/10 is like us playing 50/100...

Yea, Bangkok's wicked cheap (see monthly nut). I quit a jobby job in D.C. to do this, and my life is WAYYY better.

i was playing full time for about a year.

I then realized that this online poker thing is so wildly unstable, that it can't be a good life choice in the long run.

Right now, playing at AP, it's great. Good rb, bonus, and what not.

But the equilibrium is so tender. If AP stops rb, or gives 100 in reloads a month, or if the USA makes online poker truly illegal. Or, superusers overrun online, making it unprofitable for those that don't have it.

Some of these might be a stretch, but look at what happened to the US players a year ago. No more Party, Neteller froze up for a year.

All Im saying is, I would never recommend someone "turn pro"

If you are good enough to make lots of money in poker, you are smart enough to make lots of money some other way as well.

I agree with a lot of this. I certainly wouldn't be doing this except for the fact that I am trying to play baseball professionally next year and need a lot more flexibility in my schedule. There is no other job that I know of that will let me work for 5-8 hours a day spread out whenever I want, and still make the kind of money I am making.

Also I am making quite a bit more than my previous job (which was more than enough) so its got that going for it.

You have played so many hands, if you keep improving your game and are comfertable moving down I would say give it a shot. I would say 5k(maiby less) should be enough to try it out

just give it a shot.

Scenario A: you lose x bets and go back to the grind
Scenario B: you start out running average or good and never go back

I agree with a lot of what's said about going pro since UIGEA. I def would not quit my job for such an uncertain future.

Also, assuming you actually can maintain the same winrate at the next level up, you are costing yourself money the longer you wait. And that will just prolong the time til you hit the next level and so on.

Many jobs are like this too but as a pokerplayer you don't have a boss, you work whenever you want, and in Sweden I get all social benefits anyway. I've played poker full time for a year and I love it!

So much easier to go pro in Europe than US - in particular in Scandinavia.

You cant compare those decisions and its not even close. We get our asses saved by the welfare state and need not worry about dental care, health insurance etc. If we go busto we get a fat welfare check or a stupid job in the huge public sectors we have. And then we get to win poker taxfree!!!

In US a poker pro has to pay taxes, healt insurance etc. If he goes broke there is no nanny state to give him money.

So so so different. Playing poker for a living here in scandinavia is the nuts.
