Nah, looked around in that thread a little, and there's a bit too much technobation going on there.

Need straight talk from people who don't spend $6K on a home entertainment system.

I just want a damned TV, you know?

so what size? 32? 42? 50? 60? do you want it to be a thin tv you can hang on the wall, or do you not mind one with a bit of junk in the trunk?

I bought a 60 inch 1080i Sony XBR about 18 months ago. The HD picture is phenomenal. I am guessing that it now goes for something less than $3k.

When I was doing my research, I read in Consumer Reports that most new TV buyers were generally happy with the quality of the TV they purchased regardless of brand. Their biggest regret was not buying a larger set. Buy the biggest set that will fit the room and you should be happy.

Tried a search, didn't find what I needed, so...

I don't know crap about flat panels, high def, uh, plasma, projection TV's. Do they all have the cable ready and the remote controls now?

[/ QUOTE ]

Most TVs have tuners and are thus cable ready. If you want to receive high-definitiion ("HD") (and you should, if you're buying a big TV), you'll need something extra. Cable and satellite companies require an external box in order to receive HD signals. If you want to receive free HD, you'll need to buy an antenna. But if you're in a large metropolitan area, you might be able to get by with a small indoor antenna. Go to http://antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx to find out what kind of antenna you might need.

All TVs come with remotes, so not sure what you're asking there. Universal remotes? Some TVs come with them, some don't.

As for any other recommendation, as others have posted here, we need to know you're budget and form factor desire (e.g., if you want a flat TV that hangs from a wall, that rules out projection TVs).
