What lake isnt crowded on Memorial Day? So if you have to be on a crowded lake, Havasu is the one.

"This is a heat-loving amoeba. As water temperatures go up, it does better," Beach said. "In future decades, as temperatures rise, we'd expect to see more cases."

Re: Brain eating amoeba
On a seperate note, standard for singles in havasu is:
1. Go to the bar, get hammered, and find a chick who is equally as hammered. 2. Go [censored] in the lake. 3. ????? 4. Profit Odds of one of these things crawling up my urethra and [censored] with my junk? |

Re: Brain eating amoeba
You're mixing the brain-eating amoeba with the penis-burrowing fish. Easy mistake.

Re: Brain eating amoeba
There have only been considerably fewer than a thousand cases of this worldwide over the past 40 years. (There were a couple hundred when I last checked it...3 or 4 years ago for a paranoid friend who was afraid to go swimming after she'd heard about it.)
There was a question about it on my internal medicine certification exam. (Thanks a lot. Vitally important to know this.) They asked about treatment. Turns out that there are about 10 case reports of survival (amphotericin B) in the medical literature. I got it right on the test by accident. |

Re: Brain eating amoeba
"Evans lives within eyesight of Lake Havasu, a bulging strip of the Colorado River that separates Arizona from California. Temperatures hover in the triple digits all summer, and like almost everyone else, the Evans family looks to the lake to cool off."
You all know that this is the colorado river...which flows thru Laughlin too...and then becomes the water we drink, shower, whatever here in LA!!!!!!!! WTF is up with this? And i'm real glad i didn't know about this when i was in Mono Lake a month ago...seriously, that would be a f-ing HAVEN for this thing! |

I'm guessing it doesn't like briny saltwater.
