Previous hand UTG+1 limped and villain shoved for 42k in the CO, and everyone folded. Only hand villain played since he got moved to the table about an orbit earlier.

That's all the info I had on him. I assumed he wasn't very good since the previous hand he shoved 35bb's in the CO after an EP limper.

I think calling pre and floating most flops might be the best play.

You can obviously raise/call. He's not 4x/folding 99-TT and he is 4xing those hands, as well as AK/AQ and probably somewhat wider. So raise/call is just fine.

OTOH, as you say, guy is bad and he's asking you not to call. By calling, you're gonna spook him and he will make bigger and more easy to interpret mistakes.

You really think he'll 4bet jam 99-TT if I make it 15k or so? Since he seems to have the "monsters under the bed" syndrome I'd be suprised if his 4-bet range is wider than JJ+, AK+, maybe TT and AQs. Against that range I can profitable raise/call, but if that shrinks to JJ+, AK+, it gets pretty close even getting 2-1.

So if I 3bet and he calls that 3bet pre with 99-TT and stacks of most non A or K flops, but does the same thing if I just call, which line is better? 3-betting makes the hand easier for me to play, but I don't know if it's the most profitable line.

You really think he won't? Not all the time, but I think he will more than enough to make 3b/call very profitable. He's definitely not folding. My point is that 4x/4bet shove from this kind of 'shove big stack over ep limp donkey' is a range that JJ is probably profitable agaisnt with nothing in the middle.

As for calling, I dunno whether this is better but he's a an idiot OOP with a reasonably defined range (this is rarely 76s) so it can't be that bad.

I'd rather just rr though. Sometimes he folds, he calls way more than he should, and he sometimes shoves when he shouldn't.

if you reraise him and he shove then you will have to call. if you shove he might fold. my point is if you want to rr then just put him all in and hope for the best.
calling is also an option but what will you do if the flops came all low cards and he keeps firing?
