some other way for me to make hundreds of dollars per hour from thailand while working in my underwear (if i so choose) and doing something i find extremely interesting, challenging and fun...and it'd have to let me be my own boss, set my own hours, take as much time off as i want etc

ya, show me a job like that, i'll consider giving up poker

What about the positive side of things?
I'd probably quit for 2 million dollars, and think about it for 1.

I would give up poker, but not for any of those reasons.

#1 and #2 I'd really like to think that if this enterprise is worth doing, my wife/friends/family can be convinced of that. Otherwise they don't respect me as a person and hell if I'm going to change my life for someone like that.

#3 No way I'd let the poker gods win like that. If anything I might quit after I won $10mil or something and accomplished all my goals. I could see getting bored with it after that.

[/ QUOTE ]

summed up how i feel perfectly.

Gambling can become an obsession and even an addiction. If I were convinced that playing poker had become one of these I would quit. (After the intervention and 3 weeks at a treatment facility).

Honestly, I wonder if people can be both compulsive gamblers as well as winning gamblers. Seems like they could, if hte playing took precidence over all of the other aspects of their life.

I was thinking the same. For example, at my age, I'd give up poker to keep my penis.

If my wife felt more strongly about me not playing poker than I feel about playing poker, then I'd give it up. We try to value each other's happiness equally.

If my family felt far more strongly abou me not playing poker than I feel about playing poker, I'd give it up.

I wouldn't give it up for many friends no matter how strongly they felt about it.
