Re: bernake speech
America produces services and high quality goods better than most. If you didnt make goods or services that were demanded you would all be poor.

Re: bernake speech
Another internet would do the trick, and unfortunately enterpreneurship / innovation is the only edge America has left. Internets don't happen on demand though any time you step onto the edge of the cliff with shortsighted monetary policy.
China and India obliterating each other or the Middle east would be another option, though the enviornmental reprecussions would be a bit steep to swap for renewed economic preeminence. While the fed itself is not a useless organization, it seems to have become mututally exclusive with competence -- a rare detriment of hedgefund laissez faire. |

Re: bernake speech
America doesn't produce things that other countries want. That's the issue he was addressing. We have goods and services that Americans want and need but we can't put those services on a boat and ship them to China like China can ship us plastic toys and electronics.

Re: bernake speech
Read between the lines. How could the US reduce its trade deficit? Make its currency cheaper. This makes our exports less expensive and imports more expensive. How can we make our currency cheaper? Lower interest rates. At the next Fed meeting on September 18th. By 50 basis points. Stocks will do very well next week.
