On another thread there was a post that was an oxymoron. That got me thinking, A to why, those who are so convinced of a personal god (regardless of the error of their ways ) feel the constant and abusive need to convince others, who may be more intelligent than to even consider the question of benevolent god (given their ability to see and understand their experiences), that their absolutely untenable view of a benevolent, and worthy of worship, god, is correct and necessary

Midge, I think it is all just a strange Christian culture. You have to believe in something . . . right? My hairdresser felt good, when she thought I was concurring with her Alien abduction beliefs, in fact, she really warmed up to me - I suddenly wasn’t a kook to her. It’s very nice to believe that you are normal and a part of a large, select, knowing group, and that everyone else are kooks. Especially, when you can’t think on your own, and can’t really confront the kooks on an intellectual basis, then it’s comforting to have a large cheering section on your side.

Sort of like cheering for the Seahawks v. the Bulls, I have no idea which baseball team scores the most touchdowns, but there are many fanatics that do.

Let me ask you this: Why does it bother you so much that Christians are trying to convince you their view is correct?

For me it often doesnt. I get more offended by my friends who condemn me to hell for my beliefs but do nothing to try and save my soul.
