Didn't they have an "all in" chip at the WSOP last year?
Sounds like the same idea.

Ok, my .02(take it for what its worth)

I think the idea is brilliantly simple, but also blatantly childish.
Is there that much problem in live NL poker that people cant understand how to act?
When I first learned to play in a casino(before the internet poker boom) I learned a lot of lessons the hard way, probably had a few angle shoots that happened against me, and I learned fast what not to do. Now, I play a minimal amount of live poker and dont play NL at all, so I am not fully invested in how this works either way, but it does seem like a lot of work for a dealer to place buttons in front of players during the hand, just seems like next step is everyone is going to have to wear a helmet at the table, because someone might drink, and they might fall out of their chair and they might get hurt. jmho

The question isn't pn;y whether you see any negatives. First of all there is clearly a negative, its one more task for the dealer to do. It may be a small negative bu can see issues arising. How about the complaints when a dealer doesn't realize a bet or call is all in and doesn't put up the card even though there is no dispute as to the actual bet size?, how about when the dealer looks down into his rack to find his all-in card and while he is looking down misses some action. How about the slow down in the game as the dealer puts out and takes back in a all-in card. These might be small negatives, but they are still negatives.

So the question is what are the positives to be gained and do they outweigh the negatives?

I still don't get what the advantage of this is? I find it very easy to clarify that a player is all in verbally.

And at the Bike. They use "All-in," but not a "call" button (All-in buttons are used for any and all players who go all-in on a hand.)

I saw it used at commerce. I didn't see a problem with it, but I'm not yet saying whether I endorse this system or not. The same thing can be accomplished by simply making players push the chips forward/over the line. One obvious downside is it lets players and dealers both be lazy, which is more likely to cause problems than solve them.

I think a better solution would be for each player to have a card that says all in. Then the dealer wouldn'y have to do the extra work.

I mean, YTF, how many times have you had to call the floor over because things got out of hand over a players allin not being clear. I'm guessing very rarely, if ever.

You're right, it doesn't happen often...but when it does happen, it's always an Exxon Valdez-sized nightmare to sort out.

I wish everyone would notice that the posters here most critical of the idea have never seen/experienced it, and the posters who are most supportive, have.

What is to be gained by this system?

[/ QUOTE ]

Here's the biggest upside to the system: when that "ALL-IN" marker hits the table, all nonsense STOPS. This thing gets everybody to pay attention. Nobody ever acts out of turn when the "Serious Poker Hand In Progress" marker hits the felt. You never have to prompt somebody with, "The action is on you, sir."

It's awesome. You have to see it in action to get the full effect.

(I've seen the "ALL-IN" button used, but I've never seen the "CALL" button used. I can imagine some circumstances where that causes more confusion than it clears up--like if a third player with an even bigger stack moves in after the first call was made and marked.)
