I wouldn't feel bad about it. You guys made a deal and it didn't work out. It sounds to me like the EV on his staking was huge and after all isn't that what we are all after as poker players? I can promise you he feels no worse about it than when he gets AA all in versus an underpair and gets sucked out on.

The only way you should feel bad is if you purposely blew the money - which it doesn't sound like you did. But if you did just blow the money you deserve a KINT.

I'd feel bad, but no way I'd give the money back. He knew the risks.

This OP has a history of starting a bunch of bad threads based on lies (in one, he claimed to sit at a cash table, his connection died and when he came back his bankroll had been blinded off lol), this didn't happen.

If you pay him the money back he was basically freerolling on you.

I am surprised you didn't drop down to $100NL. If I staked someone $5000 to play $200NL I would want him to have at least 25 buy ins for a level so at $2500 I would want him to drop down to $100NL. However if he was happy with you playing at $200NL with <$2500 roll and you lost the money legitimately then definitely don't pay him back anything you lost.

If he's down money after a YEAR he's probably not that good a player.

you're probably right, but it's possible Cook's horse didn't actually log that many hands or played a weird variety of stakes. For example, he may have been killing 20/40, then moved up to 40/80, killed that, and then moved up to 60/120 and lost a lot of $$$$

You never know.

He has a 9-5 and doesn't like playing online poker. So it was a live poker deal only. Less than 10k hands. I think he was like 1 win 6 losses at 15-30 - the highest level he played - which is rather unfortunate. It is very easy for a winning poker player to be down after 1200 hands at 15-30. He is playing 1-2NL right now, and reporting success, but I really only track his performance as a friend. That is, we hang out all the time, so I have a rough idea if he is winning or losing, but never ask amounts.

anyone who get staked is obviously a losing player ( due to not having enough money to play). so if I lost money i wouldn't feel bad, because the person who staked me probably doesn't care about money, because they are staking someone in the first place. They are probably just doing it to look cool or w/e.
