Re: Running bad (not all mindless whining and a plea for help)
This does bring up an important rule I try to live by:
If you feel rushed, don't play. I often find that if I'm watching the clock worrying about when my girlfriend is going to get home and thinking "man, i only have 20 more minutes", I start doing stupid stuff. How are you pulling 1 hour live poker sessions during lunch? Do you work at a casino????? |

Re: Running bad (not all mindless whining and a plea for help)
Short-buying is a terrible way to play properly. Say your 3-hour (huh?) dry session ends suddenly with a monster set that turns into a fh on the turn. Someone is betting back at you, and another person is calling along.
How you going to feel if you're all-in on the flop for 2 bets? Playing short removes a huge number of tools from your arsenal. Playing rushed is also a bad plan in most cases. You don't have time to read the players, and an hour is by no means enough to see your share of good cards. Plus, if you know your time is limited you may be inclined to "rush" things and play badly. |

Re: Running bad (not all mindless whining and a plea for help)
Okay thanks.. it's closer to 2 hours a session, plus the last two extended sessions, for a total of about 20 hours. I'm starting to wonder if I've completely forgotten how to play, or it's just variance biting my backside...
And I think you're totally correct about feeling rushed. Thanks to all who've responded... I'm thinking now that I am putting myself in a frustrating position by having limited time, which really strains the patience, even for a rock... |

Re: Running bad (not all mindless whining and a plea for help)
What position where you in when you played Q7s? Maybe a quick review of SSHE starting hand guide can get you back on track. BTW, and I'm being fairly nitty, but I think default SSHE loose games play is to fold Q7s except from small blind. Maybe you're trying to play too many hands due to limited time at table?
And $40 is nothing at a 3/6 table. You get AKs on button and raise preflop. You then raise a flush draw on the flop for equity / free card. On turn you're forced to call two cold cuz you still have odds for the flush. There, you've just blown thru $24 and you've played the hand perfectly so far. Maybe try posting some hands. You'll get some great advice from posters on here. |

Re: Running bad (not all mindless whining and a plea for help)
I was in the BB. Believe me, it was the worst hand I played.. so it made sense that it was the only hand I won that session. I'll probably not sit down with less than $80 from now on

Re: Running bad (not all mindless whining and a plea for help)
[ QUOTE ]
Most people (although I know not all) recommend having at least 12 BBs in front of you at all times (for unlikely cap/cap/cap/cap situation). [/ QUOTE ] I had one of these 3 way + change from the flop. I turned a set of K and rivered KKK44. Mmmm, mmmm, gooood. Quite often it takes me a few hours to make any kind of head way. The just before I hit that cap every street hand I folded every hand but maybe 3-4 for 1.5 hrs and folded those 3-4 on the flop. It might sound rockish, but it wasn't I was really card dead. It happens. After my monster hand I started catching cards. I played the same way I played when I was card dead. The only difference was the cards. 3 1 hour losing session shouldn't be a big deal at all. If you are tilting because of it, which it sounds like you might be, you might want to grind at a lower limit for a longer session time. It's all in your head, you'll be fine. If the game is too tough or not good for me (i.e. puts me on tilt) I move tables. Bottom line is if I tank a few hundred playing 3/6 I don't let it bother me. Based on your small buy-ins it sounds like you might have some bankroll issues. Fearing the lose of your bankroll can be a severe handicap. I'm currently reading The Poker Mindset, which is pretty good (a little repetitive, but good). This book talks about bankroll management and the fears and issues that surround managing your bankroll. I recommend getting a copy. |

Re: Running bad (not all mindless whining and a plea for help)
I believe the recommended buy in is 25BB, which is $150 in 3/6. I usually buy in for $200 at 3/6.
Many 3/6 players I see will buy in $50-60. If they lose that, they will buy in again for another $50-60. Sometimes they will buy in a third time. Several times I have seen these players with very small stacks left, get a strong preflop hand like AA. They go all in preflop or on the flop and win the main pot, but because of their small stack they were not able to win any of the side pot. By being so short stacked, they did not win as much as they could have. You do not want to play short stacked. I think 12BB is a good minimum stack. That is $72 at 3/6. |

Re: Running bad (not all mindless whining and a plea for help)
In the last week I have seen 2 different limit players people go all in on the turn with quads. Buying in short at limit is not clever in any way. If you fall below 10-12bb and the game is good - rebuy, if not leave.
