If you accept that HUCASH is higher variance than HUTRN (which is true according to common wisdom, although I cannot logically work out why this would or would not be true, since the EV/chipEV differences are supposed to go away in a winner-take-all setting), then 20 is probably pretty short for HUCASH.

I feel perfectly comfortable playing 10% of my bankroll in head-up tourneys at stakes that don't scare me (and so far, with table selection, I haven't come to a buyin that scares me, and very seriously considered playing 25% of my bankroll at a $500 against somebody who I knew was an amazing fish), but would feel far less comfortable playing with just 10 buyins at cash.

To avoid derailing this thread entirely, I started a new one asking this question specifically. Answer it there.

there are different ways of being conservative. 100 buyins is conservatative because you have a very low risk of ruin.

on the other hand, your possible downswing is a lot larger than someone who only keeps 10-15 buyins online (assuming you're playing the same level).

if a player tilts hard/has a tendency to move up to chase losses, it's probably better to be the second kind of conservative.
