Just to add - MTTs are so different because:
1) Typically, 15% get paid and the payouts rise steeply heading for 1st. In an STT 30% get paid and 60% of the pool is distributed once ITM. MTT you play to win throughout because 1st is so huge and sneaking in the money so trivial by comparison. STT you play to get ITM and then you play to win. Play both by ICM (ie use $EV and not cEV) and the calcs will give you very different advice for identical situations because the payout structures are very different. 2) In an MTT when people get busted their chips stay on your table and someone else takes their seat, bringing more chips to your table. The blinds getting higher isn't such a problem because more and more chips that you can win keep turning up. In an STT, the blinds just get higher. |
