Well I'll be the first to go out on a limb and agree with everything in the OP. I am definitely more courteous towards black people. I especially identify with the idea of letting them know that I'm "not one of them." I grew up in a tiny town with close to zero black people. Literally, there was only one high school in my county and at any given point in time, there was never more than 2 black kids enrolled. Everyone was SOOOO blatantly and ignorantly racist that any black kid immediately transferred schools. Non-white kids got beat up. It wasn't pretty. Then, I came to Atlanta and have been here for 6 years, where the population is like 65% black, and I definitely over-compensate.

most white people are less critical of black people. its like "well, they're black". i think these people think they are being courteous and sensitive to black people, but they are actually racist.
