The tax benefits aren't that great. You can write off all your gambling losses, tournment entries, racetrack tickets, etc., against that big tax slip.
At the end of the year your tax hit won't be as big if you don't continually win. And if you do, that's a nice problem to have. I think you should've just played it out. --Jeff |

OP, you didnt make a great deal, I think you realsie that now.
The tax implications are 30% on gambling winnings. There are many ways to 'lose' money. More so if you have a record of playing house games etc The only deal I would have done when heads up was for an equal split, if the other guy refuses, no sweat. I do sympathise that you was taking a shot in this tourney and as such, the $$$ meant a whole deal more to you, and nobody here least of all me, knows how much a gtd 9k means to you over the 7k you was gtd. In the future, please never accept less than 50% of the prize pool when heads up. Also as you know, you being the guy to initiate chop discussions twice, put you at a disadvantage. |
