Re: Crazy hand with Phil Ivey from FTOPS #12
If ʹm not wrong he has to pay 4.7k for a pot which has about 22k. If he hits his set he can be somewhat sure to stack someone, which doubles him up for his remaining 14k. So I calculate that he has to pay 4.7k for a pot of at least 36k, giving him odds of nearly 8:1, maybe even more. This may be not sufficient in the mathematical sense but is it really "nowhere near"?

Re: Crazy hand with Phil Ivey from FTOPS #12
True set odds are something like 13:1, and in this scenario its even more since its very likely that there is more than one overpair to the 77.
Its not even close |

yeah, this wasn't really ivey playing, so there's no point in saying it was ivey.

While the play has dubious EV merit, his range should be pretty tight (diagonal pairs arrow on 'stove, probably down to 44, AKs, AQs, some random crap), and multiway, while he is most definitely knowingly 'dogging it, the times he does win the pot, he puts himself in position to really run over the tournament silly with his full arsenal and a deeper stack. It's not something you should really try at home unless you're really, really overrolled for those buy-ins. |

yeah, this wasn't really ivey playing, so there's no point in saying it was ivey. [/ QUOTE ] While this hand was going on Ivey was playing Kai with 150K deep stacks on the HU PLO tables. Do you really think he would let his ghost do that? Unless you can log into your account and play from two computers simultaneously it was Phil Ivey playing. It is more likely he really wanted to concentrate on the PLO HU match and was willing to either triple up or bust in the tourney. |
