i'm starting these [censored] next year, are they much harder than GCSEs???

[/ QUOTE ]

Not harder, but there's more subject matter. If you're prepared to do the work that is set you should get A grades no problem.

QFT. There's a load of [censored] to learn but if you cover everything properly and do solid revision I can't imagine you'd have much difficulty.

Depends what subjects you chose. I managed a C in AS Level English without reading the books or doing any revision. Thats the great thing about English- there's a simple formula to guarantee you the pass. In terms of Maths, Science ...they are considerably harder.

My main advice to anyone is keep working at your coursework till your teacher says it will get an A. Im baffled at people who hand in C C/W papers, yet, put in lots of revision for exams.

Zaster, I did my A levels in Notts

You're def correct about the difference in subjects. You can pass essay based exams with little to no work, but do the same in the sciences and you're failing for sure. On the other hand it's easier to get full marks on science exams if you put a lot of effort in.

A levels are the exams that the UK has to determine university places, I think the US equiv. are the SATs but i'm not sure. We sit them at age 17-18. People who stay in education after A-levels go on to study at degree level at a university (college).

Basically correct, though I would add that the A-levels probably have higher stakes than the SAT or ACT. In the US the importance of standardized tests depends on what school you're going to, what major you're taking (a portfolio is much more important than tests in things like architecture), your grades, etc. Some schools don't require it at all.
