The weird part of this is that in order to play a hand u have to put in 5$, so no matter what its 5$, hence...making it equivalent to a $1-2 game where somebody always raises to at least $5.

Even if u are the blind u have to put more money out there if you want to call--otherwise, you can continue to fold and wait for the nuts while paying paltry blinds.

Can you post the actual rule which forces a minimum $5 bet? Thats a very odd rule.

[/ QUOTE ]

This sort of thing used to be very common in big bet games (when big bet poker was very uncommon).

What casinos spread this variant?

[/ QUOTE ]

Some Bay Area rooms, at least. I know Lucky Chances used to have a $100 SL that was 1/2 with a bring-in of 4. Think of it as a more traditional three blind game without the third blind.

I think Casino San Pablo's NL is similar.

turning stone used to have the same thing in the friday night game several years back. i believe it was a 5/10 blind game with min. 20 bring in.. so std raise was like 60$+ ... then tom used to come and try to get it to a 25/50 game so he could lose his wrappers like it was no big deal

I've never heard of this type of format for a 1/2 game.

A bit weird if you ask me.

I was familiar with ante-only games, 1 blind games, and 3 blind games, but this is a new one for me. Thanks!

$200 is short stacked for a regular $5/5 game, but this isn't... it's a $1/2 game essentially. How often in a $1/2 game does a pot NOT get raised pre-flop anyway? Also, the buy-in is capped at $200, so it's not going to play like a $5/5.

I'd expect the players to be just as bad as in a normal $1/2 ... Thus, I would play!!
