The small number for sports betting surprised me. I guess local bookies get most of the action. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah that was surprising. I'd guess internet sites get a lot of the action these days too. At the Italian Deli I frequent the shopkeep that I usually talk to told me had started bookmaking and was making a lot of money. That sort of blew my mind. I don't understand why you would make a bet with some random guy who surely gives horrible odds when it's so easy to go on the internet these days. |

The mix in Macau is totally different. Probably it would be something like 90% baccarat, 1% slots, 9% other table games.
The gambling atmosphere is much more serious, too. When people win, they get all cocky and stuff, and they may or may not tip dealers out of all proportion to normal (e.g. if they won $500k, they might tip $20k). If they lose, they will get mad, rip up cards, swear at dealers and blow smoke in the dealer's face. Not really a place you go to for fun. I'll try and dig up some research reports and post the interesting parts. |

God, Nevada must love the taxes this generates.
Anyone who has ever driven US 95 up the Colorado River through AZ, CA, and NV may recognize this: the road in California is old, no shoulder, winding, hilly. Then you hit the Nevada border and BANG! Graded, wider, newer, huge shoulders. Gotta be your casino tax dollars at work. That's always been my theory anyway. |

This works out to ~$400 a second.
This is still less than Atlantic City's gaming revenues, right? |

Nevada's gaming tax is 6.75 %
Atlantic City's gaming tax is 8 percent plus 1.25 percent plus 4.25 percent, or about 13.5 percent. And in New Orleans with its 18 casinos, the gaming tax is 21 percent. The reality is the Nevada state government is not particularly flush with money. In fact they tried to start a state lottery to raise money from gambling because they get so little from the casinos. This article has the same stats as Diablo : http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/st...43.html?McGhie a surprising thing to me is that the slot income is dominated by the 25 cent and lower machines. It's insane to think of how much play it takes to generate that much income from nickel and dime machines. I guess they have those autoplay slots now where you don't even have to push a button, dunno I never play slots, hate them with a passion. |
