This link made my day. I was too slow; the dealer had piled up the muck; so I just tried to shove it in, but it was really neat and I didn't really shove it in properly. Not that it matters, but the turn was a K and river an Ace.

I guess this is standard from the replies. From reading these B&M posts intermittently for the past few years, I was under the impression that you cannot ask to see a hand whenver you felt like it -- after all, that is the whole concept of mucking. I mean, it is conceivable that someone incorrectly folds the winner, but then some ape not even in the hand makes him realize it and then all hell breaks loose when his hand is forcefully tabled. The kicker was when the floor lady said that is the rule because "we want the games to be 'friendly'". So we let someone not in the hand demand to see the cards of a player that just lost a big pot -- really friendly.

You do know that in that case, the guy who mucked the winner still loses the pot.

but the IWTSTH tilted the crap out of me.

It's very nice that you just showed everyone how to tilt you. I might call IWTSTH just for that reason now.

Yes, this rule is common in many places. Anyone dealt into the hand can ask to see hands at showdown.

Don't take it so personal and get over it.

There was just a huge thread on this very subject, as there is every couple weeks or so (links?).

Their motivation of course, as always, is to get free information.

[/ QUOTE ]

It should be noted that the great majority of the time, they won't use that info against you. Alot of times, it's just out of curiousity as to how their hands would've done in comparison. Then they usually forget about 3 hands later, if that.

If the Floor basically does nothing then I will be asking to see the a**hole's cards on a regular basis just to get under his skin.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm sure the rest of the table appreciates that.

Had it used all caps and included an unnatural sexual act the writing style of this post reminds me of the "Joey" posts that were ultimately attributed to Dynasty a few years back

Feel free to add every damn IWTSTH thread for the six months I was gone, which I figure should be about 72 or so.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

No, that is not always the case. In California (where they love to flash their aces), when I first was learning to play, I was out there for a tournament I'd won online.

I was playing 1/2 N/L and flopped the up and down straight draw, and I had 2 spades in my hand. One spade was on the board on the flop, and there was an ace on the board. I bet my straight draw, and get callers, turn comes it's another spade, I bet again. Woman flashes her ace, thinks and calls me.

River was an Ace (of spades), she checks, dejected and thinking I lost the hand because I was concintrating on the straight (not the flush), and the river was a 3rd ace, I start to fold my hand, and she turns over 3 aces, then demands to see my hand.

The dealer turns over my hand (it had not touched the muck yet), to discover I had the flush, and beat her.

Since it was she (the former winner) who had asked to see my hand, instead of some other random player at the table, the dealer starts pushing the pot to me.

She gets upset, points to me and says "she folded, I still get the pot!" Dealer then told her the bad news, well, that's kinda what happens sometimes if you demand to see the hand, and it turns out the other player folded the (real) winner.

Floor is called, and agrees with the dealer, and I'm awarded the pot (about 5 or 600 bucks at that point, as we had an all in player as well, who did have the straight BTW, and lost as well because of this other player who demanded to see my hand).

Not to speak for Angus, but I understood that to be precisely his point. If some other schmuck had asked to see your hand, it wouldn't have revived it. Because she asked to see, she pays the penalty.

No, that is not always the case.

Since the situation he mentioned was a player not in the hand (ie, not the 'winner') who requested to see the mucked hand, I believe that it is fairly universal that the hand is dead.
