Re: Showdown question
[ QUOTE ]
There have been many discussions about this rule, and the concensus is that envoking it just to see what the other guy had is unethical. It's legal, but regarded at pretty much the same level as angle-shooting. No one really appreciates it and it would be best to just leave it alone. [/ QUOTE ] I don't know that I would agree that there's a consensus that its unethical, but legal. I think the consensus is that its in the nature of an ettiquette violation, rather than an ethical one. Basically, its impolite. There, is, of course, a very vocal group who feel that the only permissible use is to check for collusion. Probably one can characterize their view as considering it to be unethical. So I would say there is a consensus on it being unethical only to the extent the hardliners drown the rest of us out. To say that its actually comparable to an angle-shoot is really a tiny minority view, and pretty extreme - if you claim that's a consensus, I'd say its a consensus to the same degree that Bill O'Reilly's no spin zone is actually a no-spin zone. To op, for what its worth, the actual rule doesn't mention collusion at all, here's the rule from Robert's Rules of Poker: 5. Any player who has been dealt in may request to see any hand that was eligible to participate in the showdown, even if the opponent's hand or the winning hand has been mucked. However, this is a privilege that may be revoked if abused. If a player other than the pot winner asks to see a hand that has been folded, that hand is dead. If the winning player asks to see a losing player’s hand, both hands are live, and the best hand wins. If I was in a poker game and you did that once over the course of an evening, maybe twice, I wouldn't raise an eyebrow. If you did it any more than that I'd consider you a dick. |

Re: Showdown question
First off, good for you for tabling immediately. If only more people would do that.
As to your question, I think it's obnoxious. It's a casino rule that's way absued, and it's a special trait of online poker, but it has no room whatsoever in a home game. "Hi, I'm new here, and while I'm busy stacking your chips, you mind showing me the crap you thought could win?" Home poker play is a different beast from casino play, and they're both completely separate from online play. Asking to see cards is impolite at best. Be a gracious winner and move on to the next hand. |

[ QUOTE ] Your going to be a valued poster here at 2+2; I can just tell. [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] Are you trying to be a grammar nit on someone who correctly used the contraction of "you are" rather than the possessive pronoun "your"? |
