Thanks for the replies all. I should also mention my Spanish is terrible - will that be an issue at any of these places? I assume (being an obnoxious American and all) most resorty places will be English-friendly?

[ QUOTE ] All gambling is illegal in Mexico. [/ QUOTE ] Not actually true. There are a couple major chains of bingo halls which also have sports and race books. Mostly located in the shopping malls. Haven't seen many of these in resort towns. No poker anywhere though. Of your choices, I like Puerto Vallarta the best. Great downtown, great restaurants (in the main downtown, not near resorts). Zihuatanejo is pretty cool to on the same vibe. If you just want mega-resort, Cancun might be easiest to deal with. [/ QUOTE ] There's plenty of underground poker clubs in my area. And they don't get raided by Dallas SWAT teams. |

Cancun Trip Report - Don't go during hurricane season.
Just got back, our trip was cut short by Hurricane Dean. Weather was hot and muggy, but not too bad. Keep a cold drink handy. Cancun is a resort city with almost two hundred hotels. The beach and water are beautiful, so if you want to snorkel, swim, or sail, it is a great choice. Lots of bars and restaurants that you would recognize. As for culture, you can head inland and see some mayan ruins, but that is as much culture as you'll get, other than some tasty guacamole. |

PV is the best of the 4 if you are looking for a place least like the USA.
Cabo and Cancun are big time resort towns, and you'll feel like you are just in Florida, except people speak spanish. If you are looking for an all inclusive resort or something like that go to Cabo or Cancun. Acapulco is a pretty big city. It would be my second choice. |

The Mayan ruins include Tulum (1 hour away) and Chichen Itza (3 hours away and a new 7 wonders). |

[ QUOTE ] I'm pretty sure poker is illegal in Mexico - can anyone verify? [/ QUOTE ] I'm in Southern California and have been considering moving across the border somewhere in North Baja, playing online in Mexico and playing live in San Diego. Does anyone know if playing online is illegal in Mexico? Would I have access to all the sites I can't access as a U.S. player? [/ QUOTE ] Playing online poker is legal in Mexico. Yes, you have access to every single poker site in existence. Colima420 |

That's true, you have plenty of options in Playa, Cozumel, and the Riviera Maya. |
