When I said I don't mind driving a while, I meant like 12 hours max. I don't want to drive for more than a day. Aren't there a bunch of bigass state/national parks?

[/ QUOTE ]

Is hunting typically allowed in those parks? If that's illegal, does that faze you?

Just go to a national park, have someone drive you out on a fire trail for about 20 miles and let you find your way back to civilization.

Keep a GPS transmitter on you so people could ping your location, but don't use it for directions.

Try the San Juan Mountains in SW Colorado. Should fit what you are looking for and is probably about 12 hours away. Big national wilderness area that you can get lost in, if you get away from the regular campsite areas.

There are bears there but only black bears and they are not very common. Plenty of water and it will be tough to find food but you can do it. You can experience the joys of high altitude camping too. If you die, please don't blame me though.

Anywhere between Amarillo and Albuquerque should suit your needs just fine.

Moab, Utah...Bear did a show there in season 1. Driving through there, the only thing you see for over 100 miles is "ranch exit" signs. No buildings, no billboards, no telephone/power lines.
