OK..please excuse my ignorance here, but what is SPR? I peeked around in the NL FAQs/Stickies to no prevail.

I did some searching and found it mentioned all over the place, but no solid definition. I know it was introduced in PNL, but am looking for what it stands for and how to calc it if not obvious from the def.

I am a guess here but i think it is - after preflop your stack = 26 bucks and pot = 6 buck.

so spr is Stack to Pot Ratio. the higher it is the less sure you are you felt w/ any given hand.

26/6 = 4.33 so you can kinda make decision before flop that, "ok if i flop a TP here i get my stack in the middle."

if your stacks were like 80, SPR = 80/6 = 13.3, now you're not sure you'll want to get it in.

i have no idea if this is right, but i think it is, but i don't know what kind of numbers at which you typically decide you're getting your mobnies in with just one pair.

SPR is how we abbreviate stack-to-pot ratio in Professional No-Limit Hold 'em Volume 1.

A stack-to-pot ratio between two players is the smaller remaining stack AT THE FLOP before any postflop betting occurs, divided by the final preflop pot. for example:

You have $100 and raise to $10 first in from the small blind. The big blind calls. He has more than you. The final preflop pot is $20. You have $90 left and have the smaller stack. The SPR is $90 / $20 = 4.5.

Bravos,

I can't endorse Matt and Sunny's book highly enough if you want to take a serious look at NL. The stuff on SPR in there is truly brilliant, not only in how powerful it is as a concept, but how they make it easy to grasp. I'm feeling much, much more comfortable with NL now than ever thanks to that.

Nerd,

1. Haven't I trained you over in Micro to never use "to see where you're at" as the reason for doing anything?

2. If you're addressing the man, at least capitalize his name.

Yes, I know you mean it in the "posting blind" sense

Think nerdking even knew that 'Grunch' was a man? ... lol

Haha, I think most of the newer people typing grunch have no idea it's a person.

I wonder if they say grunch in the NL forums?

"Grunch" has even entered the vernacular in OOT, so I think it's around in SSNL, too.
