[ QUOTE ]
Where does that progression stop? If technology becomes available that allows us to incubate the egg once it has been fertilized and begun cell reproduction is anyone who is now pro-choice going to suddenly defend the rights of those two cells? I think the standard of surviving on its own is one of convenience. It saves people who don't believe a zygote is a person from having to define the exact moment a human is formed. [/ QUOTE ] Two entirely seperate arguments that, IMO, have nothing to do with each other. Is a clump of cells human? Does a woman have a right to an abortion? I usually choose to ignore the answer to the first one, because the answer to the second is yes regardless. If science progresses to the point you are talking about, then only the first question will matter. |

Are you deliberate;y trying to confuse two different meanings of the word "human"? [/ QUOTE ] Not intentionally. [ QUOTE ] Two entirely seperate arguments that, IMO, have nothing to do with each other. Is a clump of cells human? Does a woman have a right to an abortion? I usually choose to ignore the answer to the first one, because the answer to the second is yes regardless. If science progresses to the point you are talking about, then only the first question will matter. [/ QUOTE ] I just thought this statement was very interesting. I don't want to hijack DS post - but it sounds as though regardless of the state of the fetus (alive, human, conscious, or not) the woman's right to chose trumps all. I think more what DS is eluding to is that current fetuses delivered at 24 weeks gestation have a >50% viability. If this drastically shifts, due to an advancement in technology, should this have any impact on abortion? |

[ QUOTE ]
Most pro choicers agree that present day abortions should be restricted to fetuses that can't survive, even with help, outside the womb. [/ QUOTE ] I believe you are wrong. You must have taken your pro-choice sample from this other thread. |
