Re: What are your all time favorite announcers\' calls?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Krukow is the "color" guy, so apparently Kuiper was laughing to hard too pull this stunt because he didn't say a word and it would normally be to him to handle that on the broadcast. [/ QUOTE ] when the color guy opens the segment out of commercial reading some promo-card for "Hat-night this Tuesday" or analyzing a replay or something it's often-times because the play-by-play guy left the booth to go to the mens room and hadn't made it back yet. Or sometimes he wants to try to finish a hamburger between innings or something and the color-guy agrees ahead of time that he'll go ahead and take it out of the break. Your hunch that perhaps he was laughing too hard to speak is possible too I guess. But there are other extremely realistic possibilities that could also explain it. [/ QUOTE ] It was obvious what happened real-time, and then they run a slow motion shot of a foul tip to the cup out of commercial-- it was set-up. But you may be correct on why the color guy did it. |

Re: What are your all time favorite announcers\' calls?
Some great ones have already been mentioned obviously - 'behind the BAG!'
My favorite is from Mike Miller's radio call of the Devils' first Stanley Cup - 'From Madison Square Garden, through the Lincoln Tunnel, to the Garden State - the New Jersey Devils have won the Stanley Cup!' |

Jon Miller's.... "That was the worst baserunning in the history of the game!" If anyone can find that clip on youtube I would be verrrrry appreciative. [/ QUOTE ] I love Miller. That one gets dredged up by KNBR it seems once a year or so. He can be very good. And even when he's at his most annoying I'm-so-funny-and-my-voice-is-awesome he's still kind of funny. Eg., paraphrase: "We've now come to that part of our broadcast, the third inning, when it is time to turn the radio broadcast over to my broadcasting colleague and partner, David B "Flem" Flemming. So, without further ado, I'll hand it over. Take it away, Dave. It's all yours." (And yeah bob, I know he's eating some air for a variety of reasons.) |

Re: What are your all time favorite announcers\' calls?
all time favorite(because I was in attendance) is....Frazier heading, more numbers, more yards to those, oh look, they don't have him yet, look at Tommie Frazier, how many tackles can one man break.....Touchdown.
Another favorite is Lyle Bremser in 1971: He's all the way home. Holy Moley, man, woman, and child, did that put him in the aisle. Johnny "the Jet" Rodgers just tore em loose from their shoes. |

Ortiz into deep right field, back is Sheffield, we'll see you later tonight ('04 ALCS) [/ QUOTE ] Too bad he simply stole an awesome historic call from his father and changed it slightly. |
